In our continued effort to decide where we'd like to "settle" we're planning a trip to Massachusetts this Fall. For work reasons we are focusing on the Boston area, but are open to any place that is truly amazing. Anyone who has an opinion of Massachusetts is encouraged to comment....
What do you think of Massachusetts?
Any "unknown" or out of the way, hidden towns/cities we should consider?
What places would you recommend for visiting?
How is the Salem Witch Museum and area in general?
What do you like and/or dislike about the area?

We are heading to Louisville this weekend for my little sister's baby shower. As soon as we get back it will be time for my OTHER sister to have her baby! Babies, babies, everywhere!!! I'm so glad we've decided we like being aunts, and have no real desire to be mothers. Please don't misread this, motherhood is an amazing thing, women who participate in raising children should be put on a pedestal, for they are truly Godesses. We are just not cut out for it, and we can recognize that. The little plastic babies that I have are quite enough, I think!

If you have a chance to check out the western part of the state, do it! Northampton (where I am -- well, technically Easthampton) is really fun and artsy, but more of a small town. It's more affordable than the Boston area, but it still can be pricey if you want to live right in downtown Northampton.

Salem is really fun, but personally I would never go back to the Salem Witch Museum. Unless there are any exhibits going on, it's just a room you stand in while a recorded presentation is played. Different dioramas light up during the presentation, but that's it. My friend and I who went expected a real museum with artifacts and stuff like that.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you mentioned the Witch Museum, that is exactly what I thought, a real museum with artifacts, pictures, etc. Dammit!

Northampton is definitely right at the top of the list! I've read wonderful things about it, and seen some gorgeous pictures. Thanks again for your help!!!

I'm sure there are other places in Salem with more artifacty sort of things, but we had already blown most of the day so we didn't look for them.

Holler if you have any Northampton questions!

Hey, I hope livejournal notifies you that I responded to this. I am definitely in need of some help. We are planning a trip to Mass the third week in November. I'd really prefer to stay in Northampton, and go into the city a couple days. Would you be able to email me or possibly IM about places to stay in Northampton? We'll likely be there for a week, and are hoping to drive so that we'll have our own car....
Thanks for any help you might be able to give, in advance.

Got it! I'll email you tonight or tomorrow AM with lots of info! There are two motels (Best Western and Clarion) right off the highway, and a swanky expensive hotel downtown (Hotel Northampton). And a bunch of places in Hadley, just over the river from Northampton. I'll whip up some more info for you soon!
